Supplements are intense packages of information

I used to get Glucosamine and Glutamine confused, because they sound so similar. During my supplement crazy days, I took both because I thought I needed them. They were a waste of money and made me worse.

Glutamine is a type of amino acid your body makes from glutamic acid. Amino acids are the basic building blocks of proteins. Glutamine provides fuel for the cells that line the intestinal epithelium to resist against pathogens and allergies. Toxicity and deficiency of glutamine is very uncommon since it is an amino acid derived from food sources including meats, cabbage and beets.

Glucosamine is a type of amino sugar (protein and glucose), which are ingredients Candida uses to make chitin; the outer cellular membrane that protects it. Glucosamine can cause insulin to work less efficiently. Supplement companies claim that glucosamine can help restore joint cartilage and alleviate joint pain, but these claims are not conclusive. You can’t get glucosamine from your diet, so no worries about providing Candida with the ingredients to build their defenses, unless you take it as a supplement.

L-Glutamine is said to reduce sugar cravings and heal the gut lining. L-Glutamine converts to glutamate, which is a major neurotransmitter that explodes brain cells = headache. Think MSG, an excito-toxin that destroys brain cells.

I had severe, chronic, debilitating fatigue. I was taking a Malic Acid supplement to help with fatigue and other symptoms. Malic Acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that is corrosive and causes skin irritation. It is promoted as beneficial for softening cholesterol gallstones and dissolving liver stones, because it is corrosive. It’s antibacterial properties kill beneficial bacteria, so I suspect it is not hospitable to the mucous lining of the intestines or helpful when you are trying to rebuild the beneficial bacteria that need to live there. It was so irritating that it swelled my intestines shut for days. That’s what it will do if you have IBS / IBD, Crohn’s or Colitis.

Supplements

Supplements are intense packages of information that the body has not evolved with. Creating a chemically identical compound and calling it Malic Acid, Glutamine or anything else, which is separated from the cofactors and synergy in food or that mimics those things that are naturally produced by a healthy body, causes it to behave in the body very differently from its natural form. Supplements have the potential to upset the delicate biochemical balance that creates homeostasis in the body. Whole food was designed to achieve and maintain homeostasis. Let your food be your medicine.
